United Parcel Service (UPS) driver is facing a lawsuit after running over a bicyclist in Baldwin Park last year.
According to court records obtained by Baldwin Park News, the 11-page lawsuit was filed on September 10, 2025, in a Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Its filing names defendants driver Pablo Conteras, an individual; United Parcel Service, Inc., a business entity; and Does 1–30, inclusive, alleging them of general negligence, negligence per se, and negligent entrustment, hiring, retention, and supervision.
According to the filing, the incident occurred on February 13, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., when the plaintiff was lawfully riding her bicycle near Puente Avenue, north of Francisquito Avenue, in Baldwin Park.
Baldwin Park Police Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded at approximately 11:02 a.m. following reports to 9-1-1 of a collision involving a pedestrian.
Officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department arrived and discovered an injured female with her bicycle entangled underneath the UPS truck.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel provided medical aid before transporting her.
She was transported to LAC+USC Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition, the Baldwin Park Police Department told Baldwin Park News at the time.
In a prior statement to Baldwin Park News, UPS said:
“UPS is aware of the incident involving one of our drivers and a cyclist. Safety is UPS’s number one priority. Our drivers are trained to be aware of their surroundings and to be among the safest drivers on the road. We are working with authorities to fully investigate the situation and will defer additional comment to responding authorities.”
According to the lawsuit, defendant Pablo Conteras, who was operating a 2015 brown Freight/MTUS delivery truck with a California license plate, allegedly violently struck the plaintiff and her bicycle while she was riding.
Plaintiff reportedly tried to avoid the collision but was hit and trapped beneath the United Parcel Service (UPS) truck, according to the lawsuit.
Its complaint alleged Conteras—acting within the scope of his employment—failed to ensure the truck could be safely moved before accelerating, creating what the plaintiff described as a hazardous condition.
As a result of defendant Pablo Conteras alleged negligence, the United Parcel Service (UPS) truck collided with the plaintiff and her bicycle, causing serious injuries and damages.
Its lawsuit further claims violations of several California Vehicle Code sections, including failing to yield to pedestrians or bicyclists and operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
Plaintiff alleges that at all times, defendants and Does 1 through 30, inclusive, owned, possessed, leased, rented, managed, inspected, repaired, maintained, supervised, controlled, permitted, and/or operated the vehicle that caused injuries to Plaintiff during the incident.
At all times Plaintiff was lawfully riding her bicycle and was unable to foresee or prevent the impending movement of the United Parcel Service (UPS) truck that resulted in her injury.
According to the lawsuit, the acts and omissions of the defendants and Does 1 through 30, inclusive, were willful, wanton, reckless, malicious, oppressive, and/or done with a conscious or reckless disregard for the rights of Plaintiff.
Plaintiff also alleges defendants and Does 1 through 30, inclusive, negligently, carelessly, and wrongfully failed to take reasonable precautions in the operation of the truck and to prevent it from causing injuries to others, including Plaintiff.
As a direct and proximate result of the acts and/or omissions of defendants and Does 1 through 30, inclusive, Plaintiff suffered serious injuries that have required the professional medical treatment of numerous physicians and healthcare providers.
As a direct result, Plaintiff sustained severe and serious injuries, including physical pain; mental and emotional pain; medical bills; loss of enjoyment of life; loss of earnings; and other such damages.
Its lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, mental and emotional distress, loss of use of her bicycle, and other general and special damages.

Un conductor de United Parcel Service (UPS) enfrenta una demanda luego de atropellar a un ciclista en Baldwin Park el año pasado.
Según los registros judiciales obtenidos por Baldwin Park News, la demanda de 11 páginas se presentó el 10 de septiembre de 2025 en un Tribunal Superior del Condado de Los Ángeles.
Su presentación nombra al conductor acusado Pablo Conteras, un individuo; United Parcel Service, Inc., una entidad comercial; y hace 1-30, inclusive, alegando negligencia general, negligencia per se, y encomienda, contratación, retención y supervisión negligentes.
Según la presentación, el incidente ocurrió el 13 de febrero de 2024, aproximadamente a las 11:00 a.m., cuando la demandante conducía legalmente su bicicleta cerca de la Avenida Puente, al norte de la Avenida Francisquito, en Baldwin Park.
El Departamento de Policía de Baldwin Park y el Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de Los Ángeles respondieron aproximadamente a las 11:02 a.m. luego de recibir informes al 9-1-1 de una colisión que involucró a un peatón.
Oficiales del Departamento de Policía de Baldwin Park llegaron y descubrieron a una mujer herida con su bicicleta enredada debajo del camión UPS.
El personal del Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de Los Ángeles le brindó asistencia médica antes de transportarla.
Ella fue transportada al LAC+USC Medical Center, donde fue mencionada en condición estable, el Departamento de Policía de Baldwin Park le dijo a Baldwin Park Noticias en ese momento.
En una declaración previa a Baldwin Park News, UPS dijo:
“UPS está al tanto del incidente que involucró a uno de nuestros conductores y un ciclista. La seguridad es la prioridad número uno de UPS. Nuestros conductores están capacitados para ser conscientes de su entorno y estar entre los conductores más seguros en la carretera. Estamos trabajando con las autoridades para investigar a fondo la situación y aplazaremos comentarios adicionales a las autoridades que respondan.”
Según la demanda, el acusado Pablo Conteras, quien operaba un camión de reparto marrón Freight/MTUS 2015 con matrícula de California, presuntamente golpeó violentamente a la demandante y su bicicleta mientras conducía.

El demandante alega que, en todo momento, los demandados y Does 1 a 30, inclusive, poseían, arrendaban, alquilaban, administraban, inspeccionaban, reparaban, mantenían, supervisaban, controlaban, permitían y/u operaban el vehículo que causó lesiones al demandante durante el incidente.
En todo momento, la demandante conducía legalmente su bicicleta y no pudo prever ni evitar el inminente movimiento del camión de United Parcel Service (UPS) que resultó en su lesión.
Según la demanda, los actos y omisiones de los demandados y los hechos del 1 al 30, inclusive, fueron intencionales, desenfrenados, imprudentes, maliciosos, opresivos y/o realizados con un desprecio consciente o imprudente por los derechos del demandante.
El demandante también alega que los demandados, del 1 al 30, inclusive, por negligencia y descuido, e injustamente, no tomaron las precauciones razonables en la operación del camión y para evitar que causara lesiones a otros, incluido el demandante.
Como resultado directo y próximo de los actos y/u omisiones de los demandados y Does del 1 al 30, inclusive, el demandante sufrió lesiones graves que han requerido el tratamiento médico profesional de numerosos médicos y proveedores de atención médica.
Como resultado directo, el demandante sufrió lesiones graves, incluido dolor físico; dolor mental y emocional; facturas médicas; pérdida del disfrute de la vida; pérdida de ingresos; y otros daños similares.
Su demanda busca daños compensatorios por gastos médicos, salarios perdidos, dolor y sufrimiento, angustia mental y emocional, pérdida del uso de su bicicleta y otros daños generales y especiales.
