Suspicious envelope delivered to the Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center on Monday afternoon triggered a multi-agency emergency response.
At approximately 1:07 p.m., Kaiser Permanente staff at the hospital’s mailroom—located in the 1011 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard—reported receiving an envelope they deemed suspicious.
Out of an abundance of caution, Kaiser Permanente employees contacted authorities.
Initiating a response from the Baldwin Park Police Department and firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, including members of the Hazardous Materials Unit.
Officers and firefighters secured the envelope, isolated the area, and launched an on-site investigation.
According to the Baldwin Park Police Department, one employee who came into direct contact with the envelope reported experiencing mild symptoms after exposure to an unknown substance.
Its individual was evaluated and treated at the scene by on-site Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center personnel.
As part of the response, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
In a statement provided to Baldwin Park News, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the Postal Inspectors responded to the incident in Baldwin Park and collaborated with other federal and local law enforcement partners.
Following a thorough investigation, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service concluded that the situation was deemed safe and no threat was found.
