Driver was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after performing dangerous donuts and driving recklessly on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park — a chaotic incident caught on video that ended with a collision and a major traffic disruption.
Its chaotic scene unfolded at approximately 3:54 p.m. on April 8, 2025, when the California Highway Patrol began receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a traffic hazard on the eastbound 10 Freeway just north of Frazier Street.
Initial callers described a black BMW 7 Series, believed to be from the mid- to late 2000s, to the California Highway Patrol Communication Center, weaving erratically across lanes and nearly sideswiping other vehicles.
Witnesses also noted that both of the car’s side mirrors were missing, according to the California Highway Patrol incident log.
By approximately 4:06 p.m., updated report logs indicated the BMW had come to a complete stop in the center of the freeway, obstructing several lanes during the height of the afternoon commute.
Just minutes later, at approximately 4:10 p.m., the situation escalated dramatically.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the driver began performing donuts across all four eastbound lanes — lanes 1 through 4 — as stunned drivers looked on.
The BMW also reportedly had a green sign or object beneath it and had already been involved in a collision with a semi-truck prior to what happened next.
During the reckless stunt, the vehicle ultimately slammed into a support beam of the Baldwin Park Boulevard overpass.
Cell phone footage captured by Rigo Obezo and obtained by Baldwin Park News shows the BMW spinning out in the middle of active freeway traffic just moments before the crash.
Its incident brought traffic to a standstill and prompted an immediate law enforcement response.
An unidentified motorcycle officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, who happened to be nearby at the time, detained the driver and placed him under arrest without further incident at approximately 4:21 p.m.
California Highway Patrol officers arrived shortly after to assist at the scene.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded and evaluated the driver. No serious injuries were reported.
California Highway Patrol told Baldwin Park News that the driver was arrested.
