One Baldwin Park Police Department officer was killed in the line of duty and another wounded after responding to a shooting Saturday evening.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Robert G. Luna and Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert Lopez confirmed the officer’s death during a press conference held Sunday morning.
Its incident unfolded at approximately 7:12 p.m., when the Baldwin Park Police Department was dispatched to the area of Palm Avenue and Filhurst Street following a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired and a person down.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, as Baldwin Park Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they were immediately met with gunfire.
The suspect was described as an adult male armed with a rifle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Another officer was also wounded and was currently being treated at a local hospital. He is expected to recover.
An adult male was found dead at the scene before officers arrived, though the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has not yet revealed his connection to the incident.
Its suspect was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
