On March 13, 2021, the Baldwin Park Police Department held a DUI checkpoint at Ramona Boulevard and Durbin Street in the City of Baldwin Park, the DUI checkpoint was from 7:30 pm to 12:00 am.
The Checkpoints are held at locations based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make an arrest, but to promote safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
This checkpoint was funded by a grant.
Approximately, 915 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 10 drivers were cited for being unlicensed, 3 drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license and their vehicles were stored, and 2 drivers were arrested for being in possession of a firearm, without incident.
A total of 3 firearms were recovered and vehicles of those drivers were also stored. One driver was arrested for being under the influence of Methamphetamine. All total, only 6 vehicles were towed and stored.
During a regular Council Meeting held on March 17, 2021 Emanuel Estrada, the Mayor said “Those DUI checkpoints were not called on by the Council, Council didn’t direct anybody to bring those checkpoints those checkpoints were grant-funded money specifically for DUI and Driver’s license checkpoints”
Estrada also said “During that checkpoints people had the opportunity to have someone in the car to take that vehicle or they had the opportunity to have someone come and pick up the car” but they weren’t there to make any profit for any department in the city.
Council Member Alejandra Avila said, “ It was for the safely of everyone we were not here to target anyone, because we are here to make a change and the community is safe”.
Council Member Danny Damian “This was not something we just came in as a city council and started to implement or the Chief of Police because he was hired, starts to implement, this was something based on a grant, and that’s the reason it was done”
He would have also said “As long as i am a council member, i am going to fight and advocate that if we have a checkpoint and someone is caught driving without a license that we give the opportunity to be able to have someone come drive there car away so it doesn’t get towed and we are making money off of that”.
Tres armas de fuego recuperadas y un conductor arrestado por estar bajo la influencia de metanfetamina en un puesto de control de DUI
El 13 de marzo de 2021, el Departamento de Policía de Baldwin Park llevó a cabo un puesto de control de DUI en Ramona Boulevard y Durbin Street en la ciudad de Baldwin Park, el puesto de control de DUI fue de 7:30 pm a 12:00 am.
Los puestos de control se llevan a cabo en lugares basados en un historial de choques y arrestos por DUI. El propósito principal de los puestos de control no es hacer un arresto, sino promover la seguridad disuadiendo a los conductores de conducir con discapacidad.
Este puesto de control fue financiado con una subvención.
Aproximadamente, 915 vehículos pasaron por el puesto de control, 10 conductores fueron Citados por no tener licencia, 3 conductores fueron Citados por conducir con una licencia suspendida y sus vehículos fueron almacenados, y 2 conductores fueron detenidos por estar en posesión de un arma de fuego, sin incidentes.
Se recuperaron un total de 3 armas de fuego y también se almacenaron vehículos de esos conductores. Un conductor fue arrestado por estar bajo la influencia de metanfetamina. En total, solo 6 vehículos fueron remolcados y almacenados.
Durante una reunión regular del Consejo el 17 de marzo de 2021 Emanuel Estrada, el alcalde dijo: “esos puestos de control de DUI no fueron llamados por el Consejo, El Consejo no ordenó a nadie que trajera esos puestos de control esos puestos de control eran dinero financiado por subvenciones específicamente para los puestos de control de DUI y licencia de conducir”.
Alejandra Avila dijo: “Fue por la seguridad de todos que no estábamos aquí para apuntar a nadie, porque estamos aquí para hacer un cambio y la comunidad está segura”.
Danny Damian ” esto no fue algo que acabamos de entrar como un consejo de la ciudad y comenzó a implementar o el jefe de policía porque fue contratado, comienza a implementar, esto era algo basado en una subvención, y esa es la razón por la que se hizo”
También habría dicho: “Mientras sea miembro del Consejo, voy a luchar y abogar por que si tenemos un punto de control y alguien es atrapado conduciendo sin una licencia, le demos la oportunidad de poder tener a alguien que conduzca allí para que no lo remolquen y estamos ganando dinero con eso”.
