A family-owned restaurant that operated for over 40 years in the City of Baldwin Park permanently closed its doors after many years of service in the community of Baldwin Park. The owners of Taco Ready closed its doors Sunday evening. The restaurant announced it would be closing permanently on its social media.
The owners told Baldwin Park News, “Taco Ready has been opened and operated by my family since the beginning. It was a family decision to sell the property. We will be forever grateful for all the love and support the community has given to Taco Ready though out the years.
According to the restaurant’s website, the origins of the restaurant started back in 1955 when Manuel Rojo emigrated to California from Sonora, Mexico, and settled in East Los Angeles. He married Enedina Rojo in 1961. Accustomed to working hard, he ran a small tortilla delivery route in the mornings and afternoons while he worked as a butcher for several markets in the East Los Angeles area.
In 1976 while Enedina was pregnant with their sixth child, Manuel had an opportunity to purchase a small corner market in the City of Rosemead. Using his knowledge of the butcher trade, and his experience as a tortilla jobber, combined with Enedina’s special recipes they opened the first Taco Ready on June 17, 1976.
Opening their first restaurant in the City of Baldwin Park at 13621 Francisquito Avenue, a few years later they would have opened their second restaurant in the City of Covina, at 452 East San Bernardino Road, which operated for over 35 years. The restaurant in Covina will be closing permanently as well, on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
