Street dedication honoring fallen Baldwin Park Police Department Officer Samuel Riveros was unveiled Sunday on the one-year anniversary of his passing in the line of duty.
On Sunday, May 31, 2026, a remembrance ceremony was held at the intersection of Fillhurst Avenue and Palm Avenue, the same location where Officer Riveros was fatally shot one year earlier while responding to reports of gunfire.
A portion of Fillhurst Avenue and Palm Avenue were closed throughout much of the day as residents and law enforcement paid their respects.
It’s roadway reopened at approximately 2:00 p.m. following the conclusion of the event.
Throughout the ceremony, members of the Baldwin Park Police Department stood in formation near the newly unveiled sign, which now permanently designates a portion of the intersection in Riveros’ honor.

It’s ceremony included remarks from members of the Baldwin Park Police Department, including Chief of Police Robert A. Lopez, as well as members of the Baldwin Park City Council.
Chief of Police Robert A. Lopez reflected on Riveros’ service, his sacrifice, and the lasting impact he left on both his colleagues and the community he served.
Family members of fallen Baldwin Park Police Department Officer Samuel Riveros were also present for the unveiling, standing together as the memorial sign was revealed and placed permanently at the intersection where he lost his life.
Its memorial sign reads: “Baldwin Park Police Department – Officer Samuel Riveros – EOW 5/31/25 – Honor Duty Service.”
Support extended beyond Baldwin Park city limits, with neighboring law enforcement agencies joining to pay their respects.
Members of the West Covina Police Department participated in a commemorative run beginning at their station and ending at the memorial site.
Officers from the Irwindale Police Department also attended the ceremony to pay their respects.
In the area nearby, flowers and small tributes were placed near the exact location where Riveros was struck while responding to the call.
Baldwin Park Police Department also recently unveiled a permanent memorial inside the police station, a dedicated locker honoring Officer Riveros and preserving his service within the department’s history.
Officer Riveros, remains the first officer in the history of the Baldwin Park Police Department to be killed in the line of duty.
Sunday’s dedication ensures that his name, service, and sacrifice will remain a permanent part of Baldwin Park’s landscape and history.
