The City of Baldwin Park launched the San Gabriel Valley Regional Bikeshare Project Thursday morning. The Bikeshare project is Electric-assist bicycles similar to a regular bicycle. It costs $2 to unlock and $0.10 per minute of ride time.
The GoSGV is a bike share program organized by the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG), that offers an accessible and affordable transportation option to the San Gabriel Valley through the shared-use electric-assist bicycles. South El Monte is the first city in the San Gabriel Valley to launch the bike share program. The program is made possible through the SGVCOG, supported by a $4.554 million state greenhouse gas reduction grant and operated by Gotcha, a national private shared-mobility firm.
The Electric-assist bicycles are similar to regular bikes but have pedal assist which helps riders by boosting their pedaling efforts, making it easier to climb hills, travel longer distances, and assist individuals with physical limitations that prevent extended cycling. Gotcha is responsible for ensuring that e-bikes are maintained at stations.
According to GOTCHA, if you don’t end your ride at a hub, you’ll be charged an out-of-hub fee. This costs the Gotcha’s team having to relocate bikes for other riders. If you park outside of the system area marked in the app, you’ll be charged a more expensive out-of-system fee according to GOTCHA.
GoSGV launched 45 bikes and 9 bike stations in Baldwin Park.
This comes after the city council’s decision to create a Vision Zero Plan to improve safety. On September 16, 2020, at a City Council meeting, the city council passed a measure that they would commit to eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries in the city over the next 10 years.
At the Press Conference held at Morgan Park, Mayor Manuel Lozano said “The bike-share program will allow residents and visitors an affordable option to experience their city and to get to their destination,”.
The Mayor Pro Term of the City of Baldwin Park told Baldwin Park News in a statement ”The GoSGV program allows residents and visitors to explore our area, promote a healthy lifestyle, and contribute toward the environment by reducing the use of cars. GoSGV will introduce new people to cycling by providing fun, safe, and secure bikes.”.
Council member Monica Garcia said that the introduction of GoSGV was part of a culmination of decades-long work, around 10 years to make travel safer for those who walk and bike, according to the Press Conference.

This includes enhanced cleaning practices, warehouse procedures, hygiene protocols, and more. Bikes are not cleaned between every ride, but they are cleaned whenever the? are maintained or rebalanced by? Gotcha?s team.
Gotcha recommends that riders use hand sanitizer and proper handwashing techniques before and after using their bikes. Gotcha also recommends riders use personal protective equipment like face coverings whenever using the shared mobility systems.
