Suspect is dead, and two people are fighting for their lives following a shooting behind a Target store in Baldwin Park on Sunday night.
At approximately 9:24 p.m., officers with the Baldwin Park Police Department were dispatched to the Target store in the 3100 block of Baldwin Park Boulevard after receiving reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, Baldwin Park Police Department officers searched the property and located a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in the area behind the Target, according to police.
Officers immediately began administering life-saving measures until paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene.
Both victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition, the Baldwin Park Police Department told Baldwin Park News.
At least one vehicle at the scene had children inside at the time of the shooting; however, the children were not injured.
Baldwin Park Police Department Officers safely removed the children from the vehicle and secured them inside a patrol unit at the scene, following the shooting.
According to the Baldwin Park Police Department, Officers later determined that the suspect and both victims were known to one another.
At approximately 12:45 a.m., about three hours and 15 minutes after the shooting, officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the nearby City of Covina, roughly six miles from the Baldwin Park crime scene.
Its suspect had fled prior to officers arriving in Baldwin Park, the Baldwin Park Police Department told Baldwin Park News.
Officers conducted a traffic stop near Hollenbeck Avenue and Nubia Street in the City of Covina.
When officers approached the vehicle, they discovered the suspect inside suffering from what the Baldwin Park Police Department described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Its suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.
Its investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional details are available at this time.
