Authorities arrested a suspect Monday night in the City of Baldwin Park after a standoff with police.
On Monday, April 26, 2021, at approximately 7:00 pm, officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department were dispatched to the 4000 Block of Puente Avenue in the City of Baldwin Park.
Regarding a reckless driver and a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway. Upon the arrival of officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department, a pursuit unfolded with the driver of the vehicle but got discontinued.
About an hour later, the driver of the vehicle was recognized from the pursuit earlier on the day, near the intersection of Francisquito Avenue and Frazier Street and a felony stop took place.
The driver refused to come out of the car and didn’t comply with commands and a standoff unfolded.
After negotiating with the suspect, the Baldwin Park Police Department said they broke the back two windows of the car with a less-lethal round and used bean bag rounds in an attempt to bring the standoff to an end.
The standoff ended at approximately 9:00 pm.
No injuries were reported to the suspect, once arrested the suspect was placed on a mental evaluation hold. Once released, he will be facing charges that are still pending, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.
The Baldwin Park Police Department called a police bearcat because citizens did not want to move out of the way and were in harm’s way, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.
