A man in his 20s was injured after pulling a gun during a traffic stop at officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department causing an Officer-Involved Shooting.
The Officer-Involved Shooting occurred on Friday, May 21, 2021, at approximately 9:12 pm, in the 4700 block of Phelan Avenue in the City of Baldwin Park.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives responded to assist the Baldwin Park Police Department with the Investigation.
Detectives learned that officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, one of the passengers exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at the officers at which point an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.
The man was treated at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and transported to a local hospital.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the man was struck several times in the upper torso, where he is listed in stable condition.
A handgun was also recovered at the scene according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
No officers were injured, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told Baldwin Park News.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was asked to conduct a neutral investigation into the shooting. In addition, members of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene for additional investigative review, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.
