In-N-Out Burger, the beloved Southern California fast-food chain, is making a historic return to its roots.
In-N-Out Burger announced Monday that it will relocate its West Coast corporate headquarters back to Baldwin Park, the city where it was founded in 1948.
Its move marks a significant milestone for the family-owned burger chain, reinforcing its deep connection to the city where its legacy began.
In-N-Out Burger’s transition is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, consolidating In-N-Out’s Southern California operations into a single location.
For decades, the company maintained two office locations, but this move will bring all West Coast corporate functions under one roof.
As part of the relocation, In-N-Out Burger will permanently close its corporate office in Irvine, located at 4199 Campus Drive, which has served as the company’s headquarters since 1994.
“In every decision about the future of In-N-Out Burger, I give strong consideration to what my grandparents and my family would think is best for our company,” said Lynsi Snyder, owner and president of In-N-Out Burger and granddaughter of founders Harry and Esther Snyder. “I know my family would be in support of this move because it brings our In-N-Out family back together in a way that helps us better serve our customers.”
Baldwin Park holds a special place in In-N-Out Burger’s history.
It was the site of the company’s first-ever location and 10-by-10-foot drive-thru stand, which revolutionized the fast-food industry by introducing a two-way speaker box, establishing California’s first true drive-thru hamburger stand.
“Since its inception in 1948, Baldwin Park and In-N-Out Burger have been synonymous. Our community has always welcomed In-N-Out and the warm, family atmosphere it provides,” said Baldwin Park Mayor Alejandra Avila. “We are thrilled that their headquarters will return to our community and are confident that this partnership will provide significant economic and cultural benefits to our community.”
In-N-Out Burger has expanded to more than 400 locations across California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, and Idaho, employing over 42,000 associates.
Founder Harry Snyder initially established In-N-Out’s Baldwin Park Offices less than a mile from the original Store #1.
Although the Baldwin Park Office has remained operational, corporate functions shifted to Irvine in the early 1990s under then-President Rich Snyder.
Following his sudden passing in 1993, the move was finalized, and the Irvine office grew to occupy nine floors, housing over 500 assoasiates.
With the return to Baldwin Park, In-N-Out Burger plans to centralize its operations while also expanding its footprint nationwide.
In-N-Out Burger is preparing to open an Eastern Territory office in Franklin, Tennessee, by late 2026 to support its growth beyond the West Coast.
“Some of our Associates will be relocating to Tennessee, which makes it even more important to centralize our western headquarters in one location, and our company’s deepest roots are in Baldwin Park,” said Lynsi Snyder. “Our West Coast family will be together in one place, where In-N-Out Burger began.”
Beyond its business success, In-N-Out’s legacy is deeply intertwined with Baldwin Park.
Baldwin Park is home to the In-N-Out University training center, the original company store, and the Esther Snyder Community Center, named in honor of co-founder Esther Snyder.
In-N-Out Burger has also been a pioneer in the fast-food industry, introducing the two-way speaker box in 1948 and debuting its signature crossed palm trees in 1972—an idea inspired by Harry Snyder’s favorite film, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Throughout its history, In-N-Out Burger has remained committed to giving back.
In-N-Out Burger Foundation, originally founded as the Child Abuse Fund by Esther and her son Rich, continues to support children in need, having donated millions to protect at-risk youth.
In 2016, In-N-Out Burger launched the Slave 2 Nothing Foundation, which provides support to individuals and families affected by drug abuse and human trafficking.
As of January 2025, meals were also provided to firefighters who were battling Southern California wildfires at selected locations.
Under Lynsi Snyder’s leadership, In-N-Out Burger has remained steadfast in its core values—serving quality food, maintaining a family-like work environment, and preserving the traditions that have made it a beloved institution.
From its humble beginnings in Baldwin Park to its 400th location in Meridian, Idaho, In-N-Out Burger remains one of Southern California’s most cherished fast-food chains.
Now, with its headquarters returning to Baldwin Park, it will once again be at the center of the company’s continued success.
