Baldwin Park family is seeking community support after a devastating house fire displaced multiple residents and destroyed a home that had served as the heart of their family for decades.
“On June 19, 2026, our lives changed in a way we never could have imagined,” the family wrote on a GoFundMe page created in the aftermath of the fire.
Its fundraiser, titled “Help Us Rebuild After House Fire,” was launched to help the family recover from the devastating loss and begin the difficult journey of rebuilding what was taken from them in a matter of minutes.
As of Tuesday, the campaign had raised more than $9,000 toward its $15,000 goal, with donations continuing to pour in from members.
On Friday June 19. 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers with the Baldwin Park Police Department and firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to reports of a Structure fire near the intersection of Gates Street and Maine Avenue.
Upon arrival, Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters encountered a single-story residence engulfed in flames and emitting smoke.
By approximately 5:45 p.m., firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department had declared a knockdown.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.
Its fire displaced approximately five residents from the home, Baldwin Park News learned.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region were dispatched to the scene to assist residents who were displaced by the fire.
Prior to the fire, an adult mother with mobility limitations was inside the home watching television when the blaze began, according to the GoFundMe Page.
At the same time, her nephew had just arrived home from work and was sitting in his vehicle in the driveway while speaking with his girlfriend on FaceTime.
Unbeknownst to either of them, a small fire had ignited on the home’s front porch, fueled by wind, the flames spread rapidly, setting off what would become a devastating loss.
Neighbors across the street spotted the flames and, believing the mother could still be trapped inside, rushed toward the burning home without hesitation.
Neighbors knocked on the door in an effort to get her to safety and called immediately 9-1-1.
Because of her mobility limitations, it took time for the mother to reach the front door, according to the GoFundMe Page.
By the time she was able to make it outside, the fire had already consumed more than half of the family’s cherished front porch.
She escaped safely but was forced to leave behind nearly everything, including her phone and shoes, the family wrote.
At the same time, her nephew noticed the smoke and quickly realized the severity of the situation.
Family members yelled for him to move his vehicle from the driveway as flames intensified and spread throughout the home.
Within minutes, the porch was fully engulfed, and the fire quickly spread into the living room and roof, eventually tearing through another family member’s bedroom before moving through the rest of the residence.
Today, family members say they remain forever grateful to the neighbors whose quick actions saved their mother’s life, expressing deep gratitude for their quick actions, bravery, and compassion during the emergency.
In the fundraiser, the family reflected on the meaning of the home’s front porch, describing it “For those who know our family, you know our porch was never just a porch”.
It served as the heart of the home, a place where morning coffee was shared, cards were played, and milestones were celebrated, including birthdays, baby showers, weddings, and holidays.
“It was where stories were shared, laughter echoed, arguments ensued, and memories were made,” the family added.
For more than four decades, the home welcomed relatives, neighbors, friends, and even strangers, it was a place where people felt comfortable, where doors were open, and where everyone was treated like family.
While their father is no longer with them, family members said they believe he continues to watch over them and help protect them.
Now, as they begin the difficult task of rebuilding, the family says they are facing uncertainty about what lies ahead, with only the understanding that the road to recovery will be a long one.
