Burglary suspect and a suspected DUI driver were arrested late Tuesday night during two unrelated incidents at the same Baldwin Park church.
At approximately 11:04 p.m., officers with the Baldwin Park Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at New Life Baptist Church of Los Angeles near Baldwin Park Boulevard and Merced Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers secured the area and established a perimeter around the property while searching the church grounds, the Baldwin Park Police Department told Baldwin Park News.
During the search, officers located an individual inside the church, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department.
It’s suspect had gained entry through a window, the department told Baldwin Park News.
It remained unclear whether the window was damaged during the incident or had already been broken before the suspect entered the building.
While Baldwin Park Police Department officers were actively investigating the burglary, they observed a white vehicle repeatedly driving past the scene in both directions several times.
At one point, the vehicle stopped within the police perimeter among units on scene, prompting further attention from officers.
Officers contacted the driver and initiated a separate investigation due to the vehicle’s suspicious behavior.
During that investigation, officers determined the driver was suspected of being under the influence and arrested the individual on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Both the burglary suspect and the DUI suspect were taken into custody at the scene and later booked at the Baldwin Park Police Department.
According to the Baldwin Park Police Department, the burglary suspect was a resident of Irwindale.
