Baldwin Park Unified School District welcomed thousands of students back to campus Thursday, marking the beginning of a new school year and a new chapter filled with fresh starts, reunions and moments that will become lasting memories for students.
Baldwin Park News joined students at Sierra Vista High School and Sierra Vista Middle School on the first day of school, capturing the excitement, anticipation and emotions across both campuses.
For some students, Thursday marked the beginning of something entirely different. For others, it was a familiar walk back to friends, teachers and staff they had not seen throughout the summer.
For seniors, walking through those gates carried a deeper meaning.
Thursday marked the beginning of their final year of high school, and the last first day they will experience as students in the District, making it a moment they will never get back.
Across the Baldwin Park Unified School District, students returned to elementary schools, middle schools and high schools, along with in the District’s Adult Transition Program and Early Childhood Education programs.
Thursday morning brought together students at every stage of their educational journey, each arriving with their own hopes, goals and stories as they stepped into another year of learning.
Schools throughout the District also created their own special welcomes to greet students and set the tone for the morning.
At Sierra Vista High School, members of the cheerleading team welcomed students at the front entrance, bringing school spirit, excitement and plenty of energy to the morning.
At Sierra Vista Middle School, students were welcomed with a red carpet as they arrived on campus, giving them a special and memorable entrance to begin the year.
For students entering middle school or high school for the first time, Thursday brought a different kind of excitement.
Stepping onto larger campuses, finding new classrooms, learning different schedules and beginning routines that, before long, would start to feel familiar.
Teachers and staff were there to guide students and make the transition a little easier, answering questions, helping students find their classrooms and making sure they felt comfortable as they settled into their routines.
For some students, friendships that began years ago continued into another year, while for others, Thursday opened the door to new friendships, connections and the chance to find their place within a new school community.
While students were enjoying their first day back, much of the work to prepare campuses for their return had taken place throughout the summer.
Maintenance and Operations team refreshed campuses and learning spaces, while Technology Services enhanced classrooms with new interactive displays and an upgraded visitor management system designed to strengthen safety and improve the front office experience for families.
Educators, administrators and support staff also spent the summer preparing for the year ahead through professional learning, curriculum planning and program preparation, according to the Baldwin Park Unified School District.

En todo el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Baldwin Park, los estudiantes regresaron a las escuelas primarias, intermedias y secundarias, junto con el Programa de Transición para Adultos y los programas de Educación Infantil Temprana del Distrito.

En Sierra Vista Middle School, los estudiantes fueron recibidos con una alfombra roja a su llegada al campus, dándoles una entrada especial y memorable para comenzar el año.

El equipo de Mantenimiento y Operaciones renovó los campus y los espacios de aprendizaje, mientras que los Servicios Tecnológicos mejoraron las aulas con nuevas pantallas interactivas y un sistema mejorado de administración de visitantes diseñado para fortalecer la seguridad y mejorar la experiencia de la oficina principal para las familias.
Los educadores, administradores y personal de apoyo también pasaron el verano preparándose para el próximo año a través del aprendizaje profesional, la planificación curricular y la preparación del programa, según el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Baldwin Park.
