Representatives of the U.S. Defense Secretary, and United States Marine Corps, presented two Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park employees with the Patriot Award for going above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate the needs of a hospital employee currently on leave serving in a very challenging assignment overseas in Iraq.
Arous Kalenderian, manager of the Critical Care-Intensive Care Unit, and Geoffrey Leysa, House Supervisor, were recognized, as well as Kaiser Permanente.
They were honored for their support of frontline healthcare workers, as well as for a registered nurse and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Rene Aventura, a Baldwin Park Medical Center employee on leave who is presently stationed in Iraq.
Aventura, a Medical Personnel Army Reservist, is currently on active military duty and service overseas on his third deployment.
He nominated Kalenderian and Leysa for this award as he’s very grateful to them for their accommodations and the support of his family while he’s in Iraq.
Aventura has been a Kaiser Permanente employee for about 20 years and is a registered nurse in the Step-Down Unit at Baldwin Park Medical Center.
This prestigious Patriot Award by the Department of Defense recognizes select employees of companies that support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
