Baldwin Park’s 27th Annual Pride of the Valley 5K is set to return Saturday, this is the first in-person run since 2019. The run was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2021, the City hosted a virtual run.
It will occur on August 6, 2022, and the run and Tike Trot begins at Morgan Park, in the 4100 Block of Baldwin Park Boulevard. The half-mile Tike Trot (for children under the age of eight) begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the run and walk at 8:00 a.m.
Runners still have time to register online the night before the race. On the day of the race, you can register in person. The registration fee for the run with a shirt is $35 (the run itself is only $30). The Tike Trot registration fee is $25 (or $20 without the shirt).
Each runner receives a medal, and monetary awards are given to the top male and female 5K finishers. A monetary award will also be given to the runner who breaks the course record. The male runner course record is 14 minutes. The female course runner record is 16 minutes and three seconds.
The run is a USA Track & Field sanctioned event, and chip timing will be handled by Pacific Coast Timing. The top three finishers in each age division will earn awards.
Its Event and Walk have a 90-minute time restriction, and following the run, the City will provide information booths, complimentary refreshments, and an awards ceremony.
The 5K course route starts at the Morgan Park parking lot entrance on Baldwin Park Boulevard. From there participants will go north on Baldwin Park Boulevard., right on Joanbridge Street, south on Maine Avenue, right on Olive Street, and south on Baldwin Park Boulevard to the finish line at Morgan Park.
Baldwin Park Police Department will provide traffic and pedestrian control during the event. The City requests that residents refrain from parking on the racecourse. Every year, the Baldwin Park City Council participates in the run.
