U.S. Border Patrol agents conducted multiple immigration enforcement operations across Baldwin Park Thursday morning, marking the latest in a series of similar raids in the city this year.
Agents were first seen at the Baldwin Park Home Depot before moving to several other locations, including Coffee Express Donuts, Baldwin Park Car Wash, and the Baldwin Park Target.
Both the Home Depot and Car Wash have been previously targeted by immigration enforcement officers in recent months.
Baldwin Park News obtained video footage shared under the condition of anonymity showing Border Patrol agents questioning a worker at the Baldwin Park Car Wash.
In the video, an agent asks the worker, “Do you have an ID?” and “Were you born here?” in English—questions appearing to determine the worker’s citizenship status.
Its worker, who primarily spoke Spanish, responded that he did not speak English, and he told the agent questioning him that he was also Latino.
“No one was taken,” the worker told Baldwin Park, explaining that agents left the scene after briefly speaking with several employees.
In the final moments of the footage, another individual can be heard asking, “Are you an American citizen?”
Its video appears consistent with other enforcement operations observed throughout Baldwin Park over the past several months—typically involving agents in green tactical vests, sometimes arriving in unmarked vehicles and questioning individuals near businesses or streets.
Thursday’s operations are part of a broader trend of federal immigration activity in Baldwin Park dating back to early summer.
In September, Border Patrol agents conducted a similar raid at the same Baldwin Park Home Depot, arriving at approximately 9:30 a.m. in a white van and several unmarked vehicles.
Video obtained by Baldwin Park News at the time showed masked and uniformed agents walking through the parking lot. At least one person was taken into custody.
In late June, multiple immigration enforcement actions were conducted throughout the city.
Agents were seen entering businesses and stopping pedestrians in what appeared to be coordinated operations.
One incident captured on video showed an unmarked vehicle pulling into a retail center in the 14300 block of Ramona Boulevard at approximately 1:59 p.m.
A pedestrian was seen walking through the area as an agent stepped out of the vehicle to question him before returning to the vehicle.
The same vehicle was later seen arriving at the Baldwin Park Car Wash, where at least four Border Patrol agents were speaking with workers on-site.
Earlier that month, in early June, federal agents were observed near several high-traffic areas in Baldwin Park—including near the city’s Home Depot —reportedly focusing on day laborers and pedestrians.
At least one person was detained, though it remains unclear whether that individual was later released or placed into federal custody.
Baldwin Park Council Member Emmanuel J. Estrada, a son of working-class immigrants, has been an outspoken advocate for immigrant rights and was seen during several of the previous enforcement actions.
During one June operation, Estrada was recorded advising a man being questioned by Border Patrol agents, saying, “Hey, you don’t have to respond to anything,” and repeating, “Don’t respond to anything.”
In response to the rising number of federal enforcement operations, Baldwin Park has recently implemented public awareness campaigns to inform residents of their rights.
Bus stops throughout the city now display bilingual informational posters in English and Spanish.
Baldwin Park is home to roughly 72,000 residents, of whom about 73% identify as Hispanic or Latino, according to the latest U.S. Census data.
As of Thursday evening, it remains unclear how many individuals, if any, were detained during the morning’s operations.
