Baldwin Park Unified School District (BPUSD) made history last week on Monday, September 30, 2024, by hosting its inaugural crosstown flag football game, a significant milestone for the district’s expanding athletics program.
Its event, titled the “Battle of the Crown,” brought together Baldwin Park High School (BPHS) and Sierra Vista High School (SVHS) in a game dedicated to celebrating women’s participation held at the Ted K. Gorrell Stadium.
Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza kicked off the evening with a heartfelt welcome, emphasizing the district’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students.
“We are proud to be trailblazers in supporting equal opportunities for all our students, especially our women athletes,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said.
Its significance of the event was echoed by Baldwin Park High School Principal Eric Lopez and Sierra Vista High School Principal Vince Pratt.
Both leaders expressed their excitement about the event, recognizing the historical significance of the match in promoting inclusivity and school pride.
Pre-game festivities enhanced the celebratory atmosphere, with spirited shouts from both schools’ cheerleading squads.
Music by a DJ filled the air, energizing the crowd as they prepared to witness the historic game.
As a special touch, the first 100 attendees received pink towels, symbolizing their support for women’s sports and adding a visual element to the evening’s theme of empowerment and unity.
Students, parents, alumni, and staff from across the district filled the stands, eager to support their schools’ athletes.
Flag Football, a sport that has gained rapid traction since being officially recognized by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and selected for its debut in the upcoming Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Aligns with the Baldwin Park Unified School District’s broader efforts to expand athletic opportunities for its female students.
With the addition of Flag Football, Baldwin Park Unified School District now offers 13 different sports for women, demonstrating its proactive approach to building a diverse and inclusive athletics program.
Baldwin Park High School, the Braves, jumped to an early lead, driven by a combination of speed and strategic play-calling.
However, Sierra Vista High School, known as the Dons, refused to be outdone.
By halftime Sierra Vista High School, had executed a series of quick plays, allowing them to seize advantage at 8 Dons to 18 Braves.
When the second half resumed, Baldwin Park High School mounted a fierce comeback, capitalizing on their speed and coordination.
Braves dominated the final quarters, securing a 30 Braves to 10 Dons, a victory to the Braves after a relentless offensive display.
El Distrito Escolar Unificado De Baldwin Park Organizó El Histórico Primer Partido De Fútbol Americano Con Bandera Cruzada La Semana Pasada
El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Baldwin Park (BPUSD) hizo historia la semana pasada, el lunes 30 de septiembre de 2024, al organizar su partido inaugural de fútbol americano con bandera cruzada, un hito significativo para el programa de atletismo en expansión del distrito.
Su evento, titulado “batalla de la corona”, reunió a Baldwin Park High School (BPHS) y Sierra Vista High School (SVHS)en un juego dedicado a celebrar la participación de las mujeres celebrado en el estadio Ted K. Gorrell.
El superintendente Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza inició la velada con una sincera bienvenida, enfatizando el compromiso del distrito de brindar igualdad de oportunidades a todos los estudiantes.
“Estamos orgullosos de ser pioneros en apoyar la igualdad de oportunidades para todos nuestros estudiantes, especialmente nuestras atletas”, dijo el Superintendente Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza.
El significado del evento fue repetido por el Director de Baldwin Park High School, Eric López, y el Director de Sierra Vista High School, Vince Pratt.
